Conquering the Cumbrian Challenge for Armed Forces veterans charity

4th June 2025

A group of people wearing black 'Walking With The Wounded' t-shirts pose in front of a red inflatable arch with the same logo. They are outdoors on grass with hills and trees in the background. Some are standing, kneeling, or sitting, and many are holding medals.

Four teams from Sanctuary completed the Cumbrian Challenge, the annual flagship fundraising event for Armed Forces veterans charity Walking With The Wounded.

Together, our teams raised £9,000 for the cause, putting us in the top 10 fundraising organisations who took part in the trek through the Lake District national park.

One of our teams completed the Tough route – 20km with 1,020m of ascent - while the majority took on the Peak route – 14km and 761m of ascent.

Ian Calver, our National Head of Property Services, said: “We had great weather, great company, truly amazing views and everyone did brilliantly well and proudly flew the Sanctuary flag. It was a real pleasure doing this with all the Sanctuary folk for a very worthy cause.”

Walking With The Wounded empowers ex-service personnel and their families who have been mentally, physically or socially wounded. It provides personalised employment support, and mental health and wellbeing support, to help veterans who are struggling after military service.

Sanctuary recognises the commitment and value serving personnel, both regular and reservists, veterans and military families contribute to our business and our country. We have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and have a number of veterans working for us.
