Chair of Sanctuary’s Group Board Andrew Manning-Cox led the county’s proclamation ceremony for King Charles III in his role as High Sheriff of Worcestershire.
The proclamation took place on Sunday 11 September on the steps of the Guildhall in Worcester. It began with opening remarks from the Lord-Lieutenant of Worcestershire, who welcomed the community to the event before introducing Andrew, chairman of Worcestershire County Council Cllr Chris Rogers and the Bishop of Worcester, the Right Reverend Dr John Inge.
Andrew then stepped forward to proclaim King Charles III.
He said: “The proclamation of the new sovereign is a very old tradition which can be traced back over centuries and it is my humble duty to continue that tradition here today.
“The ceremony does not create a new king but is simply an announcement of the accession which took place immediately upon the death of the reigning monarch on Thursday last.”
His speech concluded with the words: "Charles III, by the grace of God and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of his other realms and territories, King - head of the Commonwealth, defender of the faith, to who we do acknowledge all faith and obedience with humble affection."
At the end of the ceremony each Mayor and chairman for councils across Worcestershire were given a scroll with details of the proclamation.
