Building work has started on a development of new homes on the site of a former Aberdeen fire station.
Housing provider Sanctuary is delivering the project on North Anderson Drive which will create 118 affordable homes for local people.
The £23m project will provide a mix of apartments and houses, comprising one, two and three-bedroom homes.
The development is being built in partnership with the Scottish Government and Aberdeen City Council and has been made possible thanks in part to a Scottish Government grant award of £13.5m.
Due for completion in 2024, the homes will be managed by Sanctuary Scotland.
Gillian Lavety, Sanctuary’s Development Director – Scotland, said: “We’re delighted to start construction on this exciting project which will inject a much-needed boost to high-quality affordable housing in the local community.
“I’d like to thank the Scottish Government and Aberdeen City Council for their support in making this development happen.”
Shona Robison, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Housing and Local Government, commented: “We want everyone to have a safe, warm affordable home that meets their needs. I am delighted that we’ve been able to provide £13.5 million funding to support the delivery of these 118 new high-quality homes for social rent on former public sector land to help meet the housing needs of the people in the Aberdeen area.”
Councillor Sandra Macdonald, Aberdeen City Council housing spokesperson added: “It is fantastic to see that construction has started for a new affordable housing development at the former site of Aberdeen fire station.
“We are committed to providing more high-quality affordable housing to local residents and are pleased to be supporting this development.”
