On this page, you will find all the necessary information that will assist you in terminating your tenancy agreement with Sanctuary.
What you need to do
If you decide to move out of your Sanctuary home, please contact us using the online form below, by telephone, or in writing, and we will start the process.
If you have a joint tenancy, we would prefer all parties to sign the notice, but if this is not possible one tenant can give notice to end the tenancy, unless there is a clause in the tenancy agreement requiring all tenants to agree i.e. if you have a Fixed Term tenancy agreement, both parties MUST give notice.
You will be required to give us a certain notice period, usually this is 28 days but please do refer to your tenancy agreement for confirmation of this. Notice will start the date Sanctuary receive the completed on-line form. We will check your tenancy agreement as part of the process and we will notify you with the date your tenancy will come to an end. Only correctly completed forms will be accepted and processed, we will contact you if we require further information. Notice will be accepted from the date we receive the additional information. When we have agreed your notice period, if you would like to extend or rescind this at a later date please contact us either by email or by letter and a member of staff will discuss this with you.
What we will do
We will contact you to arrange an appointment to carry out a full inspection of your property before you leave and we will inform you of any repair work you are required to complete. Also we will let you know where to return the keys to the property. You must also ensure that all rent and other charges are fully paid up to the end of the tenancy date.
At the end of your tenancy, you must ensure the property is left empty, clean, in good repair and free from rubbish, in accordance with your tenancy agreement. Unless we have agreed with you that certain item(s) can be left.
Please remember, you will need to contact utilities providers and your local council tax team as well as any benefits agencies, if applicable. We recommend you take meter readings at the end of the tenancy, and you may wish to consider redirecting mail.
